comiXology launched another of their branded digital comic book apps this past weekend. This time it is Top Cow's The Darkness which first appeared in 1996. The story is about a former hitman who possesses an ancient elemental force named The Darkness. More than 50 issues are available in the new app. And, issues #1 through #6 are free until the end of today (Oct. 17, 2011). Each issue is normally priced at $1.99.

One of the things noticeably absent from Apple's iPhone event today was Facebook. After all, other outlets were reporting that they would for sure be a part of the event.
