The Japan Tourism Agency is seriously looking at the potential of social media to help the country’s tourism industry regain visitors after the recent earthquake, tsunami and nuclear issues. The agency is proposing the country offer 10,000 free round trip tickets to social media users to help promote the country as a safe and exciting holiday destination.

Disney, which has been doing business as an MVNO in Japan (Disney Mobile) since 2008, took the wraps off two new Android phones [JP] yesterday. The DM010SH will be rolled out in Japan in October, followed by the DM011SH in December (prices tbd).

Technically, the DM010SH is based on the Sharp's AQUOS 009SH [JP] and features Android 2.3, a 4-inch LCD with QHD resolution, an 8MP CMOS camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a microSDHC slot, a digital TV tuner, an e-wallet function, infrared communication, etc.

We've already shown you the three coolest smartphones Japanese carrier SoftBank announced for its home market today, the LUMIX Phone 101P from Panasonic, Sharp's AQUOS PHONE 102SH, and the DELL STREAK PRO 101 DL. But SoftBank actually introduced a total of nine new Android models today (plus a feature phone).

Here's the carrier's entire fall/winter line-up for the Japanese market.

And here's the third phone from Japanese carrier SoftBank's fall/winter line-up that deserves a dedicated article: it's the so-called DELL STREAK PRO 101DL [JP], which the company will start offering to its subscribers in January 2012 (price tbd). And this isn't an Android tablet but a phone.

And judging by the specs, it's going to be quite a nice one.

Sharp's AQUOS PHONE 102SH wasn't the only cool Android phone to hit the Japanese market today. Local carrier SoftBank will also start distributing the so-called LUMIX Phone 101P [JP] as part of its fall/winter line-up of new cell phones in November.

Made by Panasonic, the Android device is designed to be a mix between a phone and a digital camera (and it sure looks like it).

Japan’s second biggest carrier KDDI took the wraps off [JP] a total of eight new cell phones for the domestic market today. To be more concrete, the telco (which is likely to become the second in Japan to provide the iPhone 5) showed six Android handsets (the Arrows Z is the most impressive) and two feature phones.

First KDDI's iida INFOBAR, then Sharp's clamshell Android phone HYBRID oo7SH, and now the so-called Smart Bar [JP]: Japan is getting more and more specially designed Android handsets. Japan's biggest mobile carrier NTT Docomo is stepping up its efforts to bring Xi, its LTE service, to the masses: today, the company announced two tablets that are compatible with the standard for the Japanese market, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a new device from Fujitsu, the so-called ARROWS Tab LTE F-01D.
