Sharp's AQUOS PHONE 102SH wasn't the only cool Android phone to hit the Japanese market today. Local carrier SoftBank will also start distributing the so-called LUMIX Phone 101P [JP] as part of its fall/winter line-up of new cell phones in November.

Made by Panasonic, the Android device is designed to be a mix between a phone and a digital camera (and it sure looks like it).

It will probably take a few more months until Japan's five major cell phone makers really start shipping smartphones to the US and other regions, but in their home market, all signs point to an Android future.

Japan's second biggest carrier KDDI au, for example, unveiled [JP] a total of six new Android phones for its winter line-up today, and Fujitsu-Toshiba Mobile's ARROWS Z ISW11F is probably the most interesting model.

The cameras embedded in phones have gotten pretty good over the years. They've come a long way since the days of postage stamp sized fuzzy purple tinted photos produced by early cameraphones. But, as good as some of the cameras used in phones are today, there are times you probably wished you could quickly send a truly high quality image from a good compact camera wirelessly. That's what Panasomic is trying to deliver with the new camera under their Lumix brand.
