comiXology launched another of their branded digital comic book apps this past weekend. This time it is Top Cow's The Darkness which first appeared in 1996. The story is about a former hitman who possesses an ancient elemental force named The Darkness. More than 50 issues are available in the new app. And, issues #1 through #6 are free until the end of today (Oct. 17, 2011). Each issue is normally priced at $1.99.

Torchwood is a spinoff of BBC's long running Dr. Who TV show. For the past three seasons (or "series" as the BBC calls seasons), it had been shown on BBC America in the U.S. Season 4 (Torchwood: Miracle Day), however, is only available in the U.S. on the Starz subscription cable channel.
