During the Google I/O conference this past May we learned about the Android Open Accessory Protocol, which provides a way for Android devices to communicate with other devices over a USB connection. The protocol is available in Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) and Android 2.3.4. Today, HARMAN International Industries, which manufactures a variety of automotive entertainment products, announced their support for the Android Open Accessory Protocol.
